When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something... unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.
It was a pleasant change to read a YA book about aliens rather than the usual vampire/werewolves/Nephilim/faerie, which make up most of the fantasies these days. I can’t think of many young adult books that revolve around the idea of aliens. The behind story was well thought out and original, and didn’t sound ridiculous. I loved the fact that no two Luxen had the same level of power and that they all blended into human society quite well. The chemistry in this book? On-point. There is no love at first sight.
I just absolutely fell in love with Katy’s character right from the start. She was down to earth, funny, sarcastic and full of witty remarks. She was easy to relate with her being a book blogger and all. I admired her strength and her ability to stand up for herself against someone such as Daemon Black with his infuriating, arrogant and stab-worthy personality. I didn’t know whether I should love him of hate him. He got on my nerves a few times to the point that I wanted to smack him senseless. He grew on me eventually like moss, or a skin disease. (In a nice way… if that’s possible. Reference from The Mortal Instruments) So basically watch I'm trying to say is... Watch out Jacob Black, because there's a new Black in town that's hotter than ever!
