TALES FROM THE SHADOWHUNTER ACADEMY BY CASSANDRA CLARE

Picture
Simon learns the worst crime a Shadowhunter can commit: desertion of their comrades. In the early nineteenth century, Tobias Herondale abandoned his fellow Shadowhunters in the heat of battle and left them to die. His life was forfeit, but Tobias never returned, and the Clave claimed his wife’s life in exchange for Tobias’s. Simon and his fellow students are shocked to learn of this brutality, especially when it is revealed the woman was pregnant. But what if the child survived…could there be a lost Herondale line out in the world today?

This short novella disappointed me quite a bit, as it was not what I expected. Maybe it’s because I had high expectations since I had previously enjoyed Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy. I thought we would get to meet this mysterious ‘lost Herondale’ but I should have known better. Hopefully the ‘lost Herondale will make an appearance in one of the future novels to come. Tobias Herondale’s story was quite sad, and had more depth to it than I had expected.

Simon is still questioning the laws of the Shadowhunter, and does not like the fact that everyone still expects him to be someone he isn’t and doesn’t remember. It was a shame that once George Lovelace came out as being a mundane, the shadowhunters that he had called friends became less accepting of him.

Jon Cartwright is a bit of a d***head who has a massive ego as he likes to act real tough, but when it comes to facing a vampire? He freezes and whimpers… Yeah… Real tough buddy.

Can I just say how amazing was that excerpt from Lady Midnight? A-M-A-Z-I-N-G I’m so happy that it was added in to make up for the slight disappointment in The Lost Herondale. I now officially ship Julian and Emma more than ever! I seriously wonder just what they were up to before the incident happened? I also loved seeing Emma’s passion for Julian, and Julian’s cute sense of humor.

He was 'totally' tough. Freezing on the spot and then getting his ass kicked and knocked out

Why did you give 5 stars to a novella that disappointed you?

Good question! When I rate novels I give them a overall rating for the entire series. I really enjoyed the first short novella and am hoping that the next ones will be better. If not I may change the overall ratings to 4 stars or even 3.

So, you decided it will be a five star series and will rate every novella based on what you thought before reading it?

Yes. I've thought about changing my ratings system but I have tend to forget what I thought about a particular novel... If that makes sense

I suppose everyone has a different system :) Personally, I rate novellas individually and give an overall series separate rating based on other factors after the series end.

For example, in The Bane Chronicles I gave some novellas 3 and even 4 stars, however I was overall disappointed how little new and significant things we learned from the 10 short stories, so my overall rating for TBC is lower.

I'm not criticizing your rating system, I just think it's only fair I share mine after I asked about yours :)

I understand that you were just curious. I wouldn't blame you after saying the short novella disappointed me and giving it a 5 star rating. I agree everyone has a different rating system and how they place the books they read on their read list (I do it by series read so all the books in one series are all together) It's always nice to learn how others run their ratings system. :D

You can easily download ebooks from:
http://gallery.mobile9.com/c/ebooks/1/

You don't need to sign up, and works well for me. If you do use the website I suggest searching up"Cassandra Clare" rather than the book title.

Hope that works for you!

hey guys, simon said the lost herondales might have golden eyes. but they cant right?cuz tobias was Will's grand uncle and only Will's descendants have golden eyes cuz of tessas warlock blood.
so simon was mistaken right?

I believe Will Herondale is Tobias's descendant. Like a great-great-great-grandson. If Will is a descendant of Tobias, then Tobias's descendant can have golden eyes.

I sure hope they work out in the end.

no...in the story they said tobias was a very shu and timid person who had a very outgoing brother named William who has a grandson named Will (our Will) So Tobias is Will's grand uncle, and his descendants wont have golden eyes

Oh true... (I read this two months ago, so my memory is a bit hazy) If that's the case, then I do not see why the lost Herondales would have golden eyes. I believe Simon would be wrong, but I guess we'll have to wait and see if any lost Herondales ever make an appearance in future novels.

It's always better just to read them all together when the book is released and... it's cheaper to buy the physical copy rather than all the little eBooks. I rather enjoyed them even more so than I did with The Bane Chronicles.
