Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back. I quite enjoyed the simplicity of this book. Each book told of a different story from someone else's point of view, yet in the end they are all connected together and brought together the story through different perspectives. The main moral of the story explains how our lives and the way we live can sometimes be the outcome of how some misguided leaders think problems in the world should be solved or eliminated, though there is no such thing as a perfect world, and even if there was, it wouldn’t necessarily make us any happier. Those misguided leaders who try to control and change the world mostly end up causing more problems that we need to fight against to protect the meaning of our lives. Evil is always lurking near by and can only be overcome through happiness, which is accomplished when we help and support one another, and use our gifts to make the world a better place. Lois Lowry drives a deep message into our hearts when we read her book The Giver and the many more after.

I believe this is a worthwhile book series to read in schools and its a shame that not many do. Mice of Men is another great novel that talks of friendship and loneliness. I believe these 2 books should be read side by side as it sends a strong and powerful message to the mind that is relevant in our lives to success and survive.

It's totally unfair. Why do other people get to read better books? At least Macbeth is better than Romeo and Juliet.

It did. I hate it how the second books rarely ever live up to the expectations. This one was just terrible. I struggles for month to get through the second book...

When a sequel doesn't suffer from the second book diagnoses, you know it's a good book

Just did not like this book..... The movie trailer looked really good, so it was a massive disappointment to see how the movie ended, and the book wasn't any better for me.....

I see quite a lot of slight negative/neutral responses to this book. Sure some parts were slow, but that was what was great about it! The moral was fantastic and was really strong. I believe it is a must read as it drive a strong moral.

I personally really enjoyed this book. I loved it so much that I ask my Grandmother to purchase me the 30th anniversary edition which I love! The moral is fantastic. I hadn't even relised there was a moral until I read this review. I guess I will have to read them again in different eyes.
